Lakeland the
largest and youngest city in Polk county, was fondly
named for its many lakes and is renowned for its natural beauty and unparalleled quality of life! Lakeland's central location between
Tampa and Orlando provides comfortable and affordable
living, with easy access to the larger east-west more metropolitan areas, and
plenty of activities to keep you busy year around. Not to mention, it's simply a great
place to live!
Major industries are phosphate mining, citrus,
distribution, light manufacturing, tourism, retailing and service. Lakeland is home to the
Publix Super Market chain, one of
the major employers. Lakeland Regional Medical Center and Watson Clinic have put Lakeland on the map as a leading medical center
in Florida.
Many opportunities for advanced education are readily available at Florida Southern College, the University
of South Florida/ Polk Community College campus and Southeastern
College as well as many private colleges throughout the county. The Florida Southern
College campus on the north shore of the beautiful Lake Hollingsworth, boasts the world's
largest single site collection of architecture designed by Frank Lloyd Wright on its sprawling 100-plus acre campus and enjoys the southern
view of the lake shown here.
Local residents daily walk, jog, skate & bicycle the 2 mile radius.
Downtown Lakeland is a
mixture of old and new architecture and thrives today with restaurants, clubs, shopping
and the renowned antique district which draws visitors from near and far. Weekdays one can
tour the area with "Brad" on the downtown trolley route.
Visitors shouldn't miss downtown Lake Morton which is a protected haven to our cherished
Swan population as well as dozens of other species of ducks and birds. Having a leisurely
box lunch on one of Lake Morton's many park benches is truly a "magical"
experience!

Cultural opportunities abound as well, such as the Polk Museum
of Art, Imperial Symphony Orchestra, and downtown's Polk Theatre. The
nationally recognized Lakeland Center has hosted many of the nation's top
entertainers, ballet troops, broadway plays, and even the glamorous Miss USA's Pageant. I
"saw" Elvis there! (year's ago)
For those who enjoy the sunshine & outdoors, the City of Lakeland maintains many public parks and there are plenty of opportunities
for fresh air recreation such as golf, tennis, boating and fishing. And if your into competitive sports, then we've got your ticket! Local Joker Marchant
Stadium is the spring training site of the Detroit
Tigers followed by the Lakeland
Tigers baseball season. For Pro Sports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Orlando Magic, Devil Rays
and the Tampa Bay Lightning pro stadiums
are all within a short driving distance.
Boasting ideal subtropical weather (average temp. of 72 degrees) Lakeland is alive with events
and happenings year around. Each year in mid-April the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In, an aerial extravaganza has grown to become
America's second largest aviation event of its type making the Lakeland
Airport the busiest in the country for a full week booking every hotel/motel
room in Polk county a year in advance. The "Mayfaire-by-the-Lake" Art Festival
each Mother's Day weekend on downtown Lake Morton draws huge crowds, as do many other
annual local Munn Park festivals, fairs and events.
Surrounded by Florida's legendary attractions like Disney World, Cypress Gardens, Universal Studios, Bok Tower Gardens, Bush Gardens, and Sea World,
plus... Lakeland's all american home-town charm and natural beauty make it the perfect
place to call home and raise your family. But don't take our word for it, like "MOTEL
6" says.. "the lights are always on!". So, we invite you to come
visit us soon and discover this "gem" of a Florida city and family-friendly
community for yourself!
You'll be glad you did.
