What’s the difference between a REALTORŪ and an agent?

An agent only needs to be licensed in that state to do business.

A REALTORŪ is licensed in that state and is a member of the
National Association of Realtors. REALTORSŪ agree to abide
by a strict code of ethics which characterizes the method in
which they do business and how they interact with you.

In short, all REALTORSŪ are agents, but not all agents are
REALTORSŪ.  Before you begin working with any agent,
you should verify if they are a REALTORŪ or not.  If not,
you might want to question - why not?  While all agents are
bound by their license to conduct themselves in a legal and
ethical manor, Non- REALTORSŪ do not have to abide by
our much stricter REALTORŪ Code of Ethics.
